The One and Original Knitting Olympics

The new Olympic project

Team Finland Ravelympics logo
I wanted to join I joined, for the first time, the the Yarn Harlot in her traditional Knitting Olympics, as she is Canadian and has been doing these events since 2006. But she didn’t start in time, and Ravelry did. This means that I’m in the Ravelympics 2010 with the Sandnes Dragonship sweater, representing Team Finland. Following the original Yarn Harlot rules, I chose a project that will be a challenge to finish during the Winter Olympics. There isn’t any good picture on the Sandnes site, but I found one on Ravelry. Sorry, I haven’t asked for permission to publish that picture. The sweater depicts a Viking ship with mirror image. The pattern isn’t regular except for the sleeves, which I will start with, also to confirm the gauge. I’m lucky to have bought circulars in 3.25 mm and 3.75 mm, since neither 3.5 nor 4 mm gave the correct gauge, 22 sts on 10 cm/4 in. **The Yarn Harlot has started an Olympics project after all yesterday, and I joined that too! Yay!**
The yarns I’m using:
The blue yarn is Shetland DK from Jamieson & Smith, and the white is Novita Florica sport weight doubled.
I’m so waiting for the Olympics to start, although the ten hour time difference means I’d have to start knitting at 4 am on Saturday. I’m not that a knitwit, so will adapt to my own schedule. It also means that I have a lot of hours less to finish my project, since I’m not going to stay wake all night on the 1st of March for the Closing Ceremony!
