Travelling, resa, matka

Filed under: Health,Knitting,Spinning — knitter at 3:06 pm on Monday, May 4, 2009

I’ve been away from home for five days. One of my best friends, my cousin’s widow, got lung cancer and had an operation just before Easter. I was able to drive the 300 km (200 miles) to her last Tuesday, after my dog had been vaccinated and was back to normal after heat. I spun a lovely single yarn of red merino wool and white tussah silk on my spindle, and knitted her a chemo cap. Actually she doesn’t need chemotherapy, so I knitted the hat a little bigger so that her ponytail will fit into it. Sorry, no pic, but I experimented with different stitches to see the slanting or no slanting. The hat is super soft and she loved it. Now I think about her and send a lot of energy to her. Please do it too.

Marianne, your friend is in my thoughts for a swift recovery. How awful for you …. your best friend. I know from experience as my very best friend also has cancer and is undergoing chemo right now. She is a younger woman, but the crux of it is, last July she and her husband adopted 3 young children (ages now 8, 9, & 10) and she was diagnosed this January. Perhaps her love of these children will carry her thru this period in her life. I am not able to visit her because of my own physical problems, but we email often. She is up-beat and carrys on with great determination. I knitted her a chemo hat in her favorite color, purple, in 100% baby merino. She wears it all the time in the house, but wears a wig when she goes out. Let’s hope that both of our friends make a full and lasting recovery.

Thanks for your kind comments! Kathy, I hope your friend gets a full recovery soon.

My friend is a true knitter: A new LYS had opened on April 1st 2 miles from her, and that was the first place she wanted to visit when I offered my car to her (she doesn’t drive)! She wasn’t up to knitting yet (pains), but she did weave in some yarn ends, proudly stating “back in business” : )

Are you using a custom wordpress theme? It looks awesome!

Hi Bamboo Sheets, this theme was available from WP when I first started this blog, and I’ve updated it myself during the years, when WP has had technical changes. The original author abandoned the theme.
