Lab results
After four months on low carb, high fat, I went to the lab to get my blood tests. The doctor had forgotten the sugar tests, so the diabetes nurse, who now checks my blood pressure every month, sent me to the lab a second time. She also pricked my finger for the “after meal sugar level”, which was 5.7, lower than my previous fasting blood sugar levels (5.7 – 6.2, Diabetes from 6.1). I haven’t received the results from the second visit yet. My cholesterol levels have all skyrocketed, since I eat much fat and no statins since early November. But we now know that the wrong values are checked, and that women with a high cholesterol live longer and are healthier than those with low cholesterol values. I’ve been using statins for around five years now, although my triglycerides have been excellent (1.1 – 1.2 before statins) all the time. Now they are .66 (.4 to 1.7), all-time best value. The ratio total/HDL-cholesterol is a rough predictor of vascular mortality and should be less than 6. Mine has always been that (2.8 – 5.13), so I’ve never been at risk!?
I’m anxiously waiting for the doctor’s appointment, because I believe he will tell me off for my values and eating habits. I’ve lost 11 kgs (24 pounds) since I last met him. Hopefully that will impress him even a little! I’d like him to switch over to analyzing ApoB/ApoA1 instead, which now seems to be the best risk predictor. LDL is not all bad and HDL is not all good, there are several fractions of both, some good and some bad.
I believe that the main reason for CHD and stroke is the high insulin level that’s the result of high blood sugar levels due to the recommended high carb diets and light food products (with huge amounts of sugar and starch that converts to sugar), as insulin is an inflammatory agent that causes the blood vessel walls to be in a constant state of inflammation. That inflammation leads to narrower blood vessels and blood clots.
My writing was interrupted by my ADSL connection breaking, I was cut off for a couple of hours.
Results:
Total chol. 8.8 mmol/l
HDL 1.96 ”
LDL 6.5 ”
